DOWNSPOUT INFO. / THINGS TO CONSIDER
Determining the Amount of Downspouts
Needed.
-
Each downspout should drain a maximum of 50 feet of gutter.
-
Recommend one downspout for
approximately every twenty-five feet of length.
-
Avoid locations where water must flow around a corner to reach a
downspout.
-
Roofs w/steeper pitches may require more downspouts, due to the
volume of water.
-
Areas that receive extreme amounts rain (Downpours) may require more
downspouts.
Determining the Correct Downspout Size.
-
Gutters = 5" and Downspouts = 2”x3”, may be upgraded to
3”x4”.
-
Gutters = 6" and Downspouts = 3”x4”.
Commercial installations are as follows:
- Gutters = 6" and Downspouts = 3”x4”
- Gutters = 7" and Downspouts = 4”x5”
Note: Areas where gutters get clogged may
require bigger downspouts, so every thing will flow through them.
Determining the Correct placement of
downspouts (Downspout Drainage)
-
Coordinate roof drainage with any underground drainage system.
-
Place downspouts so they will drain into any existing drainage
holes, rather than
just letting the water flow into the grass.
-
Avoid locations where water must flow around a corner to reach a
downspout.
-
In locations where icing occurs, avoid placing downspouts on the
north side of
the building where icing occurs, if possible.
-
The locations of down-spouts may depend on the configuration,
architectural features
and appearance of the building.
