GUTTER GUARDS (Types/Materials/Sizes)

We have provided some info. / things to consider that may be very useful to help you in your decisions when choosing to have new Gutter Guards installed.

Gutter Guards: (Different Types)

- Mesh or Screen:

In expensive, will sag in time, not recommended.

- Gutter guard that snap-in and are installed under the roof shingles:

Reasonably priced and perform reasonably well. Hard to install on flat, tile, metal or shake roofs where

it is difficult to get the screen under the bottom course roof.

- Solid Cover with side slots:

Most of the solid covers rely on the principle of  "water adhesion".

The water  enters the gutter through slots or small holes located underneath a lip or on the vertical side.

The leaves and other large debris fall over the edge to the ground. Any tiny debris that remains in the

water just flows through the gutter and out the downspout. The natural surface tension of  water

causes it to cling to the guard edge and flow into the slots.

- Guards that Lay rests on roof shingles:

- Gutter Filters:

Sponge-like foam "space fillers" that let water drain through but keep leaves and other

   stuff out.

Things to Consider

-         If you are having gutter guards installed to your already existing roof, then your roof type may be the deciding factor as to what type of gutter guards you decide on. Some gutter guards require them to be applied underneath the roof.

-         The following roof types are very difficult to get gutter guards underneath: Shakes, Tile, Metal and Flat roofs. The materials will not bend/flex or are permanently attached to the bottom of the roof.

-         If you’re getting a new roof applied then you will not have to worry about if the gutter guards will be able to be applied underneath the roof.

-         The amount of debri and the size of the debris should also be considered, small oak leaves can some times make there way into the gutters through the gutter guards,

-         You may want to consider how easily the gutter guards are to remove, if they gutters did eventually need to be cleaned out.

-         Extremely large amounts or large pieces of debris may collapse certain types of gutter guards.

-         How long does each type of gutter guard last?

-         Are there certain types of gutter guards that are recommended per different roof types?
